Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs supplement main navigation in a page by showing location and information regarding the level of the site you are in and also a way to easily access previous sections. In this site they are under the title of the page on the left hand side, and will look like this:

About WAEC > Code of Conduct

The underlined words are links to that section. The last word(s) reflects the page you are currently viewing.

Using Portable Document Format (PDF)

This web site requires that you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in installed on your computer to view some of the content in PDF format.

PDF documents are ideal for documents designed to be printed (unlike most web pages) and as such we have used PDF documents for forms, manuals and publications which can be found in the Download section of this site. Commonly, the Adobe Acrobat plug-in comes pre-installed with your web browser.

If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat plug-in installed, you may be prompted to download it when you request a PDF document. If not, you can download the plug-in for free.

Depending on your browser, when you view a PDF document, it may open in the same or a new web browser window. An Acrobat toolbar will also be added to your browser. To save a PDF for viewing later, simply choose the 'Save' button from the PDF toolbar. (See Figure 2.1)

To print a PDF, simply choose the 'Print' button on the PDF toolbar. (See Figure 2.2)

Java and JavaScript

This site, like most modern web sites, takes advantage of Java and JavaScript technologies. While the two are fundamentally different (their relation is only in their name), both may be necessary for a site to fully function. To ensure that you have Java and JavaScript enabled, please check your Advanced and Security settings (which also differ depending on browser and version) and make sure Java and JavaScript are both enabled.

Cache

Web browsers sometimes keep a copy of a web page on your hard disk to save you from having to download the page again in the future. However, this can sometimes prevent you from seeing updated information. If you think you may be experiencing this problem, you may have to clear your cache.

To clear your cache in Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options, then delete Browser history which will clear Temporary Files and your History.

To clear your cache in Firefox go to the Tools menu and select Options, Select Privacy from the left or top menu (depending on version) then click on the "Clear Now" button for both the history and Cache sections or Private Data (depending on version).

For other browsers not covered here please look at the help supplied by your specific browser or contact your ISP for further assistance.

Modem issues

The speed of your Modem and/or ISP (Internet Service Provider) may affect your access to this website.

The most noticeable issue will probably be the downloading of PDFs. These files are usually larger than standard web HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) documents, but offer significant advantages for printing. Therefore, if you are presented with an option for a 'standard' webpage or a PDF for certain information, the standard option may be better if you don't plan to print off the information.
